Why I admire Matthew Barney
I love love love his Cremaster series! His artistic abilities are incredible. I could just sit there for hours talking about what art is to him and never get bored.

I was at the Hollywood premiere of The Fountain. It was great. We were all exiting out the front and he was two people ahead of me. I was thinking should I just tap him on the back? Is now a good time? What will I say? Just as I was about to do it, someone comes up to him and they get into this super long conversation. Rats! Maybe next time.
I’ve had two perfectly good chances to meet him- we were in the same room together once for viewing a film and the second time viewing a band- but was only aware he was there after the fact.
I met him at his last book signing for Hey Rube. Rumor had it he was tripping on acid or really drunk. He was late because he couldn’t tear himself away from some game he was watching at the bar. He was with his wife and Benecio Del Toro. He was playing Bob Dylan and drinking from several bottles of whiskey and the like. He complained he was tired and wanted to smoke a cigarette but it was against store policy which pissed him off. Great guy!
My boyfriend pulled up at a stoplight next to none other than Larry David! As he realizd this Larry looked over at him and they exchanged strange glances until the light turned green.
I met him on the street. He was promoting Laura Dern’s performance in INLAND EMPIRE for Oscar nomination. He had a cow with him and smoked cigarettes and we spoke about music and film scores. Very nice man.
This guy is big! I met him at a reading in Beverly Hills. I asked him what things I should be doing to become a better writer. He gave me some gold. He said no matter what- Have Fun!! That changed everything for me.
He was filming Rounders in my East Village neighborhood. I saw him coming out of his trailer and yelled his name. He waved to me and ducked back in.
We’ve emailed a few times. I made a film adapted from one of his short stories in Smoke and Mirrors. He seems really nice and I’d like to meet him in person. I read his blog daily.
